Batik is an ancient fabric artform that originated in Java, Indonesia. It is worn with great pride throughout the Country. This beautiful fabric is produced by three methods:
Hand-Written (Batik Tulis)
The traditional method of making Batik involves a process call wax-resistant dying. A hand design is created on a piece of fabric using a tool such as a pencil. Once the design is completed, wax is traced over the non-design areas and allowed to dry. Dye is then applied to the wax-free areas. When the fabric is dry, it is put into boiling water to remove the wax.
This method can be quite expensive due to the time and artistry it requires.
Machine-Printed (Batik Print)
As in the name, this method is created when a design is created on a computer, and then transferred to a factory printer. This is the method used by most commercial operations and brings this lovely artform to many due to its affordability.
Stamped Batik (Batik Cap) – Tradition Made Timeless
Stamped Batik or Batik Cap is a cherished Indonesian technique that brings together artisanal skill and efficient design. Instead of drawing each pattern by hand, artisans use hand-carved copper or wooden stamps dipped in hot wax to press intricate motifs onto natural fabrics like cotton or silk. This process allows for beautiful, consistent designs to be created more quickly. Making it ideal for producing high quality, artisan made pieces on a larger scale. While faster than hand drawn batik (Batik Tulis), Batik Cap still carries the heart and soul of Indonesian heritage in every pattern.
Perfect for those who value ethical fashion, handcrafted clothing and authentic Indonesian textiles. Batik Cap is a beautiful expression of tradition made wearable for today.n of designs across textiles.
